Week 4

Well here we are about the half way point. I can’t believe how fast the time is flying by. Callie went to the Vet today (day 28) to confirm pregnancy and just get a good check-up. We used palpitation to verify her pregnancy. This is only possible between days 27~31. At day 32 the fluids that are needed to protect the puppies increase and this makes feeling them impossible . You can still use ultrasound after this however it will not tell you how many puppies you are expecting and it is pricey. I figure it is best to wait and have an x-ray done during the last week and at that point you will know how many to expect. You have to wait to do the x-ray to give the puppies bones time to develop so they will show up on the film.
So the Vet did confirm that Callie is expecting. She also said that she is looking really good. Callie has been more tired. When she is asleep she is much more sound than she used to be. I can get up and leave the room and I don’t think she even notices. I have also started giving her more food. I have been giving her about a half scrambled egg every morning. The food bowls are getting filled twice a day now, compared to the usual once. In with the food I am now adding a multi-vitamin with some salmon oil. I have been reading all the labels though to make sure that I am not supplementing with calcium. I have noticed that she is developing some breast tissue as well. When I feel her nipples the tissue just beneath them is not as flat as normal. The puppies are going through lots of changes this week too. Their faces are taking shape; the eyes and spinal cords are developed. They have also grown almost double in size this week. Of course they are still only about the size of a pea. I am hoping to get started on building the whelping box this upcoming week. Hopefully I will add some pictures of that coming together next week. Until then enjoy these pics. I realize none of these pictures have anything to do with her pregnancy. There really is just not anything to see at this point. She will gain most of her weight during the last three weeks. Much like a woman will gain most of her weight during her last trimester. I will get a picture just as soon as there is an obvious belly bump.

In the movie "101 Dalmations" Nanny can tell when Perdita is pregnant just by looking into her eyes and checking to see how much tenderness is there. Well I have been looking and her eyes could not be more tender. As a matter of fact I think she may even be glowing!!

As for the Proud Papa, well, he is just handsome as always.
