This is horrible!!! I knew I was slacking a bit and really needed to get on here and update but I honestly did not realize it had been so long. I totally apologize to those of you who have been wanting updates. The kids are out of school now which is a plus and a minus all at the same time. It is a plus that I have some extra hands around the house to help puppy sit while I run errands. But then it is also a minus because every time I do leave my cell phone starts ringing with one of my children crying on the other end "Mom, they wont share and let me hold the puppy too!!" She may be lacking in socialization with littermates but she is not lacking in the human socialization. Hubby even seems to be wanting to hold her more and more. He likes to watch her little yawns and how she twitches her ears in her sleep. Her eyes are still not open but I figure that she was just born early and so they needed more time to fully develop. They are less creased now and look like they may open at anytime.
You can see in the picture above that she is spending more time in her actual whelping box now. I knew I didn't build it for nothing. I moved the box to a more central location in the house, the family room. That way I can still cook and clean while still being within ear shot of her. I am still sleeping on the floor next to the box. But at least in the family room I can stretch out and there is carpet under me and not tile. I even had the whole family sleeping in there with me last night. The teenagers thought it would be fun to watch scary movies. When they were over it was not so fun anymore. I guess it doesn't matter how old and mature you think you are, sometimes you still just want your Mommy. Speaking of Mommy, Callie just does not have it in her this time. I mean she tries as best as she can but the hormones were just not there. If Little Angel cries Callie will go get in the box and lick her and stuff but just as quick as she got in she gets back out. Callie will stimulate her to urinate if I hold her bottom up to her mouth. (to be honest though Tux has decided he likes to do that too.) But when it comes to getting her to poop, neither one of them is anywhere to be found. So I take care of that part of her bathroom needs. Sometimes Callie will surprise me and go get in the box and lay down with her baby. She will even cuddle her. However as soon as she thinks she is missing something going on elsewhere she knocks the baby to the side and gets out without a second thought to her. She has no milk now. I was only able to get a few drops from her in the first few days but it is gone now. Little Angel gets all her nutrition from the bottle. She has become a little piglet too!!! I feed her at midnight and then I get to go to bed for only about four hours before she needs to fed again. When I got up last night at 4 am to feed her the sucking sounds actually woke everyone else in the room up. She really gets after that bottle. She has more than doubled her birth weight now, Yay!! I really wish that I had some other Cavalier puppies of the same age to compare her too. Just to see how well she is catching up. Anyway here are her weights in grams from this week and some pictures for everyone.
