Day 9

Ok so some amazing things have been happening the last few days. I was really frustrated with how poorly she was gaining weight. It seemed like she was constantly getting dehydrated and would have diarrhea. I was giving her Sub-Q fluids but I was beginning to feel like she was a pin cushion. My kids would cry and beg me to please not stick her again. Of course I had too knowing that it would save her life. But I did start doing some other research and found some web-sites that actually say they have had healthy puppies die from using the puppy formulas you can buy in the stores. Now I spent $30 on this can of formula that I have so I was not too happy to hear this. Seemed like most people that were listing symptoms were having the same problems I was. So I found several homemade puppy formula recipes. They all seemed pretty much the same. The recipe I am using is...

Puppy Formula
1 can evaporated milk
3/4 cup Purified Water
1 cup plain yogurt
1 egg yolk
1 tsp Karo Syrup

I could not believe the difference in her. I first fed that to her Monday night before bed. By the next morning her stools were formed and she was putting on weight. She was like a different puppy. She was stronger and seemed to have more energy when she was awake. Her belly seemed more full and she was more satisfied. For the first time in over a week I slept for four hours straight. She is eating a million times better which means she is sleeping better. I am so thankful other people have posted this information on the web.

In her first week she only gained 18.94 grams. But in the last two days since I switched her formula she has put on a whopping 38 grams!!!!
